About José A. Hevia

José A. Hevia has been in clinical practice for 30 years. Initially, he started working with individuals and families suffering and shackled respectively by severe and persistent mental health, substance abuse/dependence and developmental challenges. At the time, his clinical work was mainly focused on  individual, family, and group intensive outpatient treatment for the dually diagnosed person.

The direction of José’s clinical interest then moved his professional experiences toward the treatment of the more moderate and episodic forms of mental health afflictions, involving a broad spectrum of the following conditions and other areas of clinical interest such as: depression, anxiety, mood irregularities, impulse control, PTSD, interpersonal conflicts, sexual dilemmas, disturbances of childhood and adolescence, parent guidance counseling, EAP, mundane work/life struggles, and extensive 9.11 crisis management and trauma work, specifically with The Port Authority of NY & NJ employees and their family members.

Currently, José is in solo private practice in northern NJ, very close to New York City. His office is easily accessible by NJ public bus service, The Path Train, and the Bergen-Hudson Light Rail System. José now mostly works with adults, couples, adolescents, and families distressed by the more widely known mental health, behavioral, interpersonal relationship, phase of life transition, workplace, and addiction concerns and challenges.

José is fully bilingual in English and Spanish. He has always valued and accounted for, in his overall treatment approach, the influence of age, gender, sexual diversity, race, culture, traditions, religion, spirituality, and one’s professional life.
